Presented by Red River College's Digital Media Design, Designing Tomorrow is a fundraising evening that seeks to provide a platform for leading designers and inspirational entrepreneurs to share what they are most passionate about. Designing Tomorrow represents three broad subject areas of design, that collectively build our tomorrow; online web creation technologies, live motion graphics, and 3D animation.
WE'RE HOSTING OUR FIRST EVENT AT THE
NEW MANITOBA HYDRO BUILDING!

Designing Tomorrow is the first event of its kind in Winnipeg. The event seeks to strengthen and spread great ideas and relationships among designers and entrepreneurs. We aim to provide a platform where emerging and established designers alike will be inspired and have the opportunity to inspire others.
The primary group is comprised of design students from the Digital Media Design program at Red River College. And while the focus is primarily on the main facets of design, the event welcomes modern studies in any discipline. Money raised from the fundraising event will go towards DMD's graduating class trip to SXSW in March.

Michael Banman
Michael has participated in several architecture competitions, most notably receiving first prize for the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland's Idea's Competition to Design an Ideal Library for the 21st Century in 2005. In 2007 he became a member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, and earned the LEED [Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design] Accredited professional designation in 2008 and the LEED AP with specialty in Building Design + Construction in 2011.
Michael has over 5 years of architectural experience working on commercial, cultural, industrial, and institutional projects. Michael practices with a disciplined approach to building science, construction, and cost management, delivering projects that are not only innovative and carefully crafted, but well considered and practical.
While working with Stantec Architecture Winnipeg, Michael has been a project designer on several projects with the firm, including leading the design of the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre Feasibility Study, Morden; 4 New Service Centre's for Manitoba Public Insurance [all targeting LEED Silver]; the City of Dryden, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Dryden [currently under construction, the first Wastewater Treatment Plant targeting LEED certified in North America], and 311 Centrepoint, a mixed-use hospitality, office and boutique hotel in downtown Winnipeg across from the MTS Centre.
Michael maintains an ongoing interest in architectural education and has been a guest critic of student work at the University of Manitoba and Texas Tech University. He believes in the public promotion of architecture and participation in the ongoing discussion of architecture, culture, and idea's, and was an invited to presenter at 10 x 20 x 20 in 2008.
Michael's interest in technology and digital media began while employing cad-cam technologies in developing a prototype for a Saccadic drawing table, a more immersive picture plain. He has little interest in technology for its own sake, but in it's potential to explore new idea's and spaces through rapid prototyping, enabling and developing new methods and processes construction through CAD-CAM, and teasing out more affordable and sustainable work through parametric analysis, while encouraging a greater degree of communication and collaboration between design team members, including contractors and clients.
